Apolonio (12 yo) and Analou (9 yo) lost their parents and three siblings when their home was washed by a swollen Mandulog by Typhoon Sendong which devastated Iligan City in Northern Mindanao last December 17, 2011. The children survived by clambering up logs and fallen trees that were also hurtling down the river in pitch darkness. Apolonio was found alive 5 kilometers downstream while Analou was rescued in the sea a day after. She was 43 kilometers away from where she was swept away and was saved by the log she had to embrace along the way.
