Just uploaded images of Iligan and CDO after typhoon Sendong hit at www.johnjavellana.com . Both provinces are still in recovery and recent images show that it still looks like a disaster up to this day and thousands are still living in evacuation sites and tent cities. Anybody who wishes to help feel free to contact me, I can refer you to legit people, orgs and NGOs that are still helping in the affected areas. Just because the news is over doesn’t mean the help should. Even just a little goes a long, long way. (Taken with instagram)

Just finished going through the Sendong photos for the first time ever since the trip there. Had to go through a whole range of emotions from the hopelessness and despair narrated by displaced residents; to anger and the haunting disbelief given by the sheer number of dead the typhoon has claimed. But then there’s the comforting realizations inspired by the resilience of our countrymen to pull through and live on. There’s a notion that news photographers have to set aside their personal emotions and feelings to be able to cover these events as objectively as possible on the field. There is some truth to that, but at the end of the day you are still human. And you take photos based on feel and sensitivity, not just for mere aesthetics. (Taken with instagram)

Nothing I miss more than being on the field. I miss the long road trips. The nauseating boat rides. The excitement of trying out a new means of getting around. Discovering new things you thought were never there and meeting different people who each has a fascinating story to tell about their take on this whole thing we call life. Most of all, I miss the comforting perturbation that you can only get when you are lost in the beauty of this world and the unfamiliar no matter how f*cked up it is. Presently stagnant for the longest of times as I muster and succumb to the requirements of stability and balance being an adult, living on your own. It’s fine. It’s a transition I needed. But only God knows how I’ll channel these caged desires. I am just waiting for my turn to move. barugboog.tumblr.com (Taken with instagram)

I’m all for hope. But the reality is that the more you do, the more your disappointment would be. The irony is that hopelessness you get out of hoping for the best is actually the one which will surely help you get through. Because you will no longer have a choice but move on and just rely on yourself.
